World Cup 2022: Group G Preview

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is here starting Monday, November 21st. The RPS squad is ready to go with Playbooks, Core Plays, a Trust the Process video, and the most active Discord community in DFS.

Jaime Durand has been the lead soccer coordinator since RPS started. In this series of articles he will be previewing every team in the tournament, group by group, providing players to watch and of course, his pick to win the group.

Brazil

Brazil comes into the World Cup as the number-one team in the world and the odds-on favorite to win the entire tournament. This Brazil team has an insane amount of talent and is led by PSG man Neymar but the reality is that every position is loaded with top-level talent. Brazil has a great chance to lift the trophy 20 years after their last win and should easily make the knockout round being placed in one of the softest groups in the World Cup with Serbia, Cameroon, and Switzerland. Expect a lot of goals in the group stage from Brazil from not just Neymar but from elite guys like Vinicius Jr. Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.

Top Players: Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, and Richarlison

Players to Watch: Gabriel Martinelli, Vinicius Jr., and Pedro

Serbia

Brazil is on a different level than anyone else in this group but the next best team is Serbia. The Eagles have really good forwards that can score goals in Machine Gun Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic but they also have a midfield that is very friendly for DFS in Dusan Tadic and Filip Kostic who will cross the ball a lot and have great Floors. Serbia should have enough to get results against Cameroon and Switzerland but will lose to Brazil. Even with that loss, they should rack up enough points to make it to the round of 16.

Top Players: Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Tadic

Players to Watch: Luka Jovic

Cameroon

Cameroon is the lowest-ranked team in Group G. They will struggle against all their opponents but will have their best shot at points against Switzerland in their opening game. Bayern forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is their top player and he is having a great season in the Bundesliga. Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi are worth mentioning as guys who can help Cameroon pull some upsets but at the end of the day, the manpower just isn’t there for them to move on to the next round.

Top Players: Eric Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar

Players to Watch: Nicolas Moumie Ngamaleu

Switzerland

Switzerland opens up play against Cameroon in a game they need to get a result in with Serbia and Brazil on the horizon. Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka are the more known players on the team but they will need the young guys to step up and contribute goals for this team to have success. Monaco forward Breel Embolo could be that guy as he leads Monaco in goals and keep an eye on Noah Okafor who is only 22 but is already putting up good numbers at Salzburg. I am torn on who joins Brazil and I am leaning toward Serbia but The Swiss could definitely prove me wrong.

Top Players: Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, and Breel Embolo

Players to Watch: Noah Okafor
