MATCHUP SUMMARY
Plenty of question marks surrounding this game. One answer we know for sure is Justin Fields is out. This leaves the Vikings with the questions to answer. They are locked in as no worse than a #3 seed with potential to rise to 2nd. Kevin O’Connell has said the starters will play if he thinks they can get a #2 seed. That would require the 49’ers to lose against the Cardinals. This means it’s not out of question the starters sit. It’s not also out of question the starters blow the Bears out and sit the 2nd half. The biggest issue is O’Connell must made a decision because they play at 1pm while San Fran is a late game.
The Vikings have plenty of offensive options. Justin Jefferson is looking to break the receiving record. He needs 190+ yards, a healthy number. Cooper Kupp needed less last year in the same position and came up short. I expect Jefferson to do the same. I don’t see the starters playing a full game. With TJ Hockenson, Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen and even KJ Osborne the Vikings have plenty of options. At this time I am off on what I see as chalky Viking players, especially Jefferson and Hockenson. Now if the starters rest, Alexander Mattison becomes a great play. If the starters do play I think Mattison is still in play as a much lower owned GPP target.
David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert continue to share the backfield. Thus I can’t play either due to the limited upside. Nathan Peterman will be spread heading the offense. The positive is he will be up against a weak Viking defense, especially the pass defense. I like him better if the Vikings do sit starters but who is to say he can’t get the job done. The issue hurting Peterman is the wideouts he is throwing to have been inconsistent plus he lacks rapport with them. Cole Kmet would be the popular player to side with. I prefer Dante Pettis as many will side with Chase Claypool. Pettis should have the best rapport with Peterman. Although it hasn’t happened often, Pettis has performed well when given the chance.
THE DFS GEMS
Alexander Mattison, Vikings-$5,100 If he starts he should be popular. I prefer him in a blowout role who gets some 1st half run and plethora of 2nd half usage. He has 100+ yard upside and can find the end zone.
At this point Mattison is my only target. I see Jefferson and Hockenson as getting ownership while being in a suspect spot because of the game flow. I am also not in love with the Bears as I see many other better spots.
