USFL Championship – Best Bets

Pittsburgh Maulers @ Birmingham Stallions

Throughout the season, Birmingham has proven to be the top team in the USFL, while Pittsburgh has emerged as a surprise contender. The Maulers have consistently enhanced their offensive performance each week and currently possess the most formidable defense and special teams units in the league.

Pittsburgh has six losses this season, but only two have been by a margin greater than six points — this is an important stat to consider when looking at today’s spread. During their regular season meeting with Birmingham, Birmingham secured a 24-20 victory over Pittsburgh, during which the Stallions’ quarterback Alex McGough recorded 157 passing yards and accounted for two of his five interceptions for the year.

However, since their Week 4 clash, Birmingham has improved drastically and has become a far more dominant team, preparing them for their championship battle today.

The Playoffs

Birmingham comes into the game with a surge of confidence following their impressive 47-22 victory over the New Orleans Breakers. McGough delivered another exceptional performance, surpassing 300 passing yards for the third time this season and throwing multiple touchdown passes for the eighth time. Moreover, the offense excelled on the ground, accumulating a season-high 245 rushing yards.

Although the defense allowed the Breakers to gain over 350 yards, the Stallions capitalized on two turnovers, resulting in 10 points and ultimately securing a commanding lead.

Pittsburgh did not experience the same level of dominance in their matchup against the Michigan Panthers. While the offense had one of its stronger performances, tallying 290 total yards, it did not reach the same heights as Birmingham’s display as the Maulers edged out the Panthers 31 – 27.

Championship Game

Birmingham enters this game with a six-game winning streak following their dominant victory over the Breakers. However, it will be challenging for the Stallions to run up the score on the Maulers’ defense. Alex McGough must take caution against the Maulers’ aggressive front seven and solid secondary.

This should be a close game; Pittsburgh will make things interesting. While I’m not confident they can pull off an upset, they will certainly be able to cover. Their defense will keep the scoring to a minimum to give them a chance, making the under a great bet.

Pittsburgh +7.5 (-110)
Under 45.5 (-110)
