The USFL never fails to bring us surprises and upsets, and this past week was no exception. Out of all the games played in Week 6, only one favorite emerged victorious. The underdogs have been on a roll lately, defying expectations and making their presence known. It’ll be interesting to see what they bring this week.
I didn’t put out an article last week as I didn’t have a strong read on any of the games. Now I know, when in doubt, bet the dog.
Philadelphia Stars @ Pittsburgh Maulers
After making their way to the Championship Game last season, the Stars have been a disappointment this year. While they do sit atop the North Division, they have a record of just 3-3. As long as this soft play continues up north, they will be set up well for the playoffs.
Today, they take on the Maulers, who were shutout by the Showboats last week as their consistency problems persist. Pittsburgh has shown signs of promise this year, but just when it seemed like they were peaking, they lay a doughnut in Memphis.
Philadelphia hopes their upswing continues as they have had impressive back-to-back wins, taking down the Generals and the Breakers. Hopefully, this trip to Cantan will yield an easy win and bring them back over .500.

Houston Gamblers @ Memphis Showboats
The Gamblers are taking on the Showboats once again. Houston edged out Memphis by four in Week 3, but given their recent performances, they should be able to pull off a larger victory this week.
Despite Memphis’ unimpressive play this season, they are 3-3 and just a game out of first place. It’s a tight race in the South Division, as the other three teams are tied with a 4-2 record. So the Showboats can make a run if they finally want to put things together.
However, Houston is my favorite to win the South — (+550) to win the Championship. Although they had a slow start to the season, they are progressing well. The Gamblers have won four straight and shouldn’t have any problem making it five.
