Tennis Best Bets – Bad Homburg: Liu & Siniakova

Claire Liu V. Jil Teichmann

Claire Liu and Jil Teichmann have never faced off against each other. Teichmann is a slight favorite after her first round upset, but there is no reason to think she can win another match on grass.

In Teichmann’s career, she’s 3-9 on the soft stuff. Teichmann played in her first Grand Slam in 2016 but didn’t make a Wimbledon appearance until 2019. She’s qualified for Wimbledon three times, and after winning her first set in 2019, she’s lost every one since.

Liu is an American on the rise, and while she has not made much of a splash, she has shown a consistent progression. She recently broke into the top one hundred, and while we have little track record to go off of, she has performed well enough on grass to beat Teichmann. Liu is a name bettors should remember when the next Grand Slam rolls around.

Claire Liu (+125)
Jil Teichmann to Win at Least One Set: No (+245)

Katerina Siniakova V. Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Katerina Siniakova is well known for her work in doubles, as she holds seven Grand Slam titles, but Siniakova has never made a major’s quarterfinals in singles. She’ll be looking to change that next month in London.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto is a top fifty player at the age of twenty-two. The Italian had the unfortunate draw of turning pro in 2020, but now that things are rolling, she’s qualified for four straight majors, and she’s hoping to make a name for herself.

Despite Cocciaretto’s short time on the tour, she has faced Siniakova twice already. They split their first two matches, with Cocciaretto picking up the win on clay and Siniakova winning on the hard court.

While there is plenty to like about Cocciaretto, Siniakova’s experience should help her land this first-round win at Bad Homburg.

Siniakova -1.5 (-110)
