MATCHUP SUMMARY

The Saints (1-1) were hoping to keep the momentum going after their opening week blowout win over the Green Bay Packers 38-3. Not only did that not happen in week 2 in Carolina, the Saints’ offense set a new low for yardage (128 total yards) under Sean Payton in a 26-7 loss. Jameis Winston was sacked four times and completed just 11-22 passes for 111 yards with 2 interceptions. Alvin Kamara didn’t get many opportunities as he carried just 8 times for 5 yards. I look for both the running game and passing game to be better in week 3 in New England but all indications are this should be a low scoring game as the 42 game total would seem to indicate.

New England (1-1) bounced back from their loss in week one to the Dolphins with a big 25-6 road win in New York over the Jets. If you look at the stats the Jets outgained the Patriots 336 to 260 but were aided by four Zac Wilson interceptions that proved to be the difference in the game, Mac Jones was efficient completing 22-30 passes for 186 yards but has been unable to connect on any deep balls down the field through the first two weeks of the season. He ranks just 29th in air yards per attempt (5.3). The Pats defense has been outstanding after two weeks allowing just 11.5 points per game with five interceptions.

THE DFS GEMS

Alvin Kamara, NO – $8,200 on DraftKings. .After a disappointing week two for Kamara, one that didn’t see many opportunities I think he bounces back with a solid game here. The ownership should be lower coming off the rough game and the low game total may keep people away. I think Sean Payton gets his star running back involved early and often in this game as I see him being their best path to a Saints victory here on the road in Foxboro.

Mac Jones, NE – $5,100 on DraftKings. If you wanted to pay down at QB this week he is one of the two guys I am considering (Daniel Jones the other). While he hasn’t shown much upside in the first two weeks I think the Saints stuff Damien Harris and the run game here forcing the Patriots to make Jones beat them through the air. The Saints allowed over 300 yards passing and two TDs to Sam Darnold a week ago.
