PrizePicks Picks – 1/5/23

Paolo Banchero Over 20.5 Points

The injury-ridden Magic host the Memphis Grizzlies tonight in Orlando.

Both teams are playing back-to-back games, but only the Grizzlies are traveling. Memphis destroyed Charlotte last night 131-107, giving them their fourth win in a row — they’ve covered all four games as well.

Having five days of rest, the Magic took care of OKC last night, defeating them by eleven.

Banchero has his work cut out tonight as he takes on the number one team in the West, missing half of the starting lineup. He showed out last night and will try to do it again here. This number would be far more enticing at 19.5, as Banchero had four 20-point games last month and six 21+ point games, but well roll the dice on the extra point.

Another thing that makes this a strong play is that Banchero plays to the level of the talent he is facing. He had 51 total points in the back-to-back games against Boston last month, but he couldn’t find 20 against the Spurs or Pistons. He should dominate the paint, as he’s asked to lead this team again.

Alexander Ovechkin Over 4.5 Shots on Goal

For those that don’t follow hockey, this season for the Capitals is all about Ovechkin chasing history. Last month Ovi passed Gordie Howe on the all-time goals list, and he currently sits 86 goals behind Wayne Gretzky for the all-time lead.

While the Capitals should make the playoffs this season, they have no Cup aspirations. Their season will consist of giving Ovechkin as many opportunities as possible to score and close in on Gretzky. He consistently puts 5+ shots on net, so this is an easy play as they take on the worst team in the Eastern Conference.

As a bonus play, bettors may tack on a score. This Blue Jackets squad is terrible, and Ovi should net one tonight.

Clifford Omoruyi Over 14.5 Points

Clifford Omoruyi has been a stud for Rutgers this season. The Nigerian is averaging 15/10, and an odd trend to his play makes betting on him extremely easy.

Omoruyi has scored 15+ in eight of his fourteen games, but only once has he had back-to-back games scoring less than 15. He opened up December with a five and fourteen-point performance. Every other time he scored less than 15, he followed it up with a spectacular game.

On Monday, he only had 12 points against number one Purdue, so taking on Maryland today, he should have no problem notching 15. Bettors can expect his number to be closer to 20.
