NHL Bets Blog – NHL 12/20/2022

YTD (80-82-2)

Tough night last night with my brains in a puddle after the long drive, but today smells like victory. We get another great 8 game slate for tonight, with some incredible match ups. While they aren’t the best from a bettors stand point, we have 3 very good games from a fan standpoint.

Pens/Rangers, Bolts/Leafs, and Devils/Canes should be incredible games to watch.

Columbus Blue Jackets (+155) @ Philadelphia Flyers (-180)

I don’t say this very often but this is a smash spot for the Flyers. Columbus is coming in off a hard fought loss against Dallas last night and they are beyond banged up. Aside from the 11 starting players missing from their line up, Tarasov is getting back to back starts with Merzlikins coming down with an illness.

Tarasov stood on his head yesterday to keep his team in it, I know the Flyers have had their share of issues recently but this is a great spot for them as they play a borderline AHL team.

Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 (+140)

Ottawa Senators (+105) @ Winnipeg Jets (-125)

If you tuned into the live show I really liked the Jets tonight, even without Wheeler in the line up. That changed when it was announced they would also be without Connor Hellebuyck in net. Out with an illness, Rittich will likely be the keeper for the Jets and he stinks.

Ottawa has been playing well lately and has a good chance here to take down a good team on home ice. Wheeler is a great 200 foot player which will force the Jets depth players to step up. I said before I didn’t mind that he was out because Helle can make up for poor defense, but I don’t have that same confidence in Rittich.

Defenseman Nate Schmidt will also be out of the line up with an upper body injury, leaving the Jets in even more of a depth nightmare. On the show I said my crazy man pick of the day is the Senators -1.5 for +240 and I will be taking that (small) as well but for the sake of the article I’ll be sticking with them money line.

Ottawa Senators Money Line (+105)

Calgary Flames (-170) @ San Jose Sharks (+150)

The Flames head to San Jose to take on a Hertl-less Sharks team as he serves a 2 game suspension. Without him in the line up I think the Flames walk all over the Sharks. Although they average over 4 GAA, the Sharks have been solid defensively and now without Hertl that defense is going to take a major blow allowing for what should be even more goals against.

I hate to think that 1 player can make or break a team but in a match up like this it certainly does. The Flames have struggled lately but they can certainly bury a team that doesn’t take them seriously.
