NHL Bets Blog – NHL 1/3/2023

YTD (103-104-2)

Great finisher to the 2022 calendar year with a nice 3-1 NYE night. Took the last few days off just to recover, and the games were kind of gross from a betting POV.

We’re kicking off 2023 with a massive slate of games, giving us plenty of choices for props and game lines. Every Tuesday/Saturday 11 am EST you can catch myself, Nadesify and JC Zargo on the RPS Bets Youtube channel discussing and breaking down that days slate. There’s always more to discuss than what I can fit into an article and we touch on the DFS side of things as well as Betting.

St. Louis Blues (+230) @ Toronto Maple Leafs(-270)

St. Louis is in rough shape. Now without Ryan O’Reilly and Vladamir Tarasenko, the Leafs should absolutely pump this team. Given how lopsided this game should be it was tough to find a ton of value, my favorite play of this game is Michael Buntings shot prop. Sitting at 2.5 he has hit this number 4 of his last 5 games, with the only miss being in the loss to the Yotes in which everyone sucked.

This is just a great match up for the Leafs, and playing on the top line and top PP with Auston Matthews should provide plenty of shooting chances for Bunting tonight.

Michael Bunting Over 2.5 SOG (+120)

Columbus Blue Jackets (+185) @ Ottawa Senators (-215)

This is another game where the numbers suggest it should be very lopsided and I agree. The Jackets are a tough watch right now, they’re being outshot, outscored and out played in general. Allowing only 1.56 GAA in their last 5 home games, Ottawa should have no issues handling a Blue Jackets team that has scored only 1.8 goals in their last 5 road games.

Columbus is still without a few of their top 6 forwards for this game, with how good the Sens top 6 have been playing they should run rampant against this team. I expect them to come out fast and take an early lead, then simply bury them as the game goes on.

Ottawa Senators -.5 in 1st Period (+130)
Ottawa Senators -1.5 (+115)

Montreal Canadiens (+200) @ Nashville Predators (-240)

You guessed it, we have another lop sided game on our hands and the Habs head to Broadway to face the Predators. Nashville should absolutely dominate this game. Montreal is “1st” in goals against on the road, allowing over 5 a game, and while Nashville isn’t a high flying offensive team they have more than enough fire power to handle this Habs team.

As always, it’s Forsberg Tuesday and he’s +115 to score. With the amount he has been shooting this is a perfect match up for him to find the back of the net again.

Nashville Predators -1.5 (+105)
Filip Forsberg Anytime Goal Scorer (+115)
