YTD (130-134-2)

Positive weekend, as small as it may have been, and I’ll never complain about that. We’re kicking off the week with an interesting slate. There are some solid games here and its making to tough to find anything of really nice value. Given that, the picks I like for tonight aren’t the juiciest by any means but there is still always something in play.

As always if you’re enjoying the free content at Run Pure Sports then I’d recommend becoming a subscriber. Subs have access to break downs and core plays from every sport, as well as premium access shows. If you do subscribe the code tannersmith15  will get you 15% whatever package you go with. But enough of that, let’s get into tonight.

Florida Panthers (+115) @ New York Rangers (-135)

The Cats and Rags face off for the 2nd time tonight, with the Panthers looking to redeem themselves after losing their first match up to these Rangers. Sadly for them I don’t think it happens tonight. A major factor in that is goaltending. Although not confirmed yet, Igor Shesterkin is the likely starter (if he doesn’t play I’ll happily take the Panthers ML instead).

In the opposing crease will be Alex Lyons, the 3rd string goalie who has a career .896 SV% and allowing over 3 GAA. New Yorks offense hasn’t been lighting the world on fire lately, but with their big 3 reunited on the first line they should be able to take advantage of the sub par goaltending.

New York Rangers Money Line (-135)

Buffalo Sabres (+155) @ Dallas Stars (-180)

The Stars have had my number lately, no matter what I say about them, good or bad, the opposite happens. That being said this is a real juicy spot for the Stars. Offensively they’re a wagon, scoring almost 5 goals a game, defensively they’re only allowing 2 goals against. A big reason for that is goalie Jake Oettinger, who will be starting tonight.

Now Buffalo can score too, averaging over 3 goals a game, but they’re also allowing 3 goals against. They fall into the “defense optional” game style that so many teams seem to be using this year. That can work for some teams but it’s tough to do that when the opposing team is ranked in the top 3 for scoring and defense in their last 5 games.

With Roope Hintz expected to return tonight it just adds to the fire power the Stars already have, facing a 41 year old Craig Anderson. I can see this game being a shootout or low scoring, but either way I see taking the win.

Dallas Stars in Regulation (-120)

Columbus Blue Jackets (+295) @ Calgary Flames (-360)

Johnny Gaudreau will be making his long awaited return to Calgary, and aside from that there isn’t much of a story here. This should be a completely one sided game. Columbus stinks, yeah they beat the Sharks the other day when I was on them but the Flames are significantly better and they’re on home ice.

Rarely do you see a team that is this heavily favorited. Obviously I’m not taking the Flames outright, but given how lop sided this game should be I expect the scoring to start early with the Flames covering that first period puck line.

Calgary Flames -.5 in First Period (-110)
