It’s been a tough couple of days, definitely gave back a few units over the weekend. The weekend slates have been very hit or miss for me this season, either going 100% or 0% it seems.
Todays games have been very spread out given the holiday, but we still have a 6 game slate to pick from tonight. Let’s get back into it after a crappy weekend.
Dallas Stars (-105) @ Vegas Golden Knights (-115)
Vegas continues their home stand against a Stars team that has struggled on the road as of late. What was once one of the most potent offenses in the league has averaged under 2 goals in their last 5 away games. They have continued to win because they only allow 1.76 goals against.
Vegas is one of the better defensive teams on home ice, and although they’re allowing over 3 goals against recently, those numbers have come against some of the better scoring offenses in the league. Expected starting goalie Logan Thompson has been great this year with his .913 SV%.
Being on home ice I expect Vegas will be able to mitigate the “star” power of this Dallas first line, allowing for their own super stars to open the game up.
Vegas Golden Knights Money Line (-115)
Anaheim Ducks (+265) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (-320)
If the Pens lose this game then I’ll need everyone to pray for my sanity. Being -320 favorites I don’t even have interest in betting that line, it’s a joke of a payout and rightfully so. Anaheim stinks, every metric says the Penguins will stomp them tonight and the ones who lead the charge in these types of games are Sid and Geno.
Even at their age they put up great numbers, Crosby leads the team in every offensive stat. They’re each getting +145 to record over 1.5 points. In my head I’m considering both of these as “one” bet. One is almost a hedge to other as I don’t see a game where neither of them hits this prop, but it’s always tough to know which line is going to have the most success.
Given the game situation I absolutely can see both of them hitting their line, but as I said I would be shocked if neither of them hit. This is the exact type of game the Penguins need to get things going in the right direction.
Sidney Crosby Over 1.5 Points (+145)
Evgeni Malkin Over 1.5 Points (+145)
Washington Capitals (-110) @ New York Islanders (-110)
I hate to say it but Washington has been playing great hockey lately, scoring almost 5 goals a game. Unfortunately for them they head to Long Island to shoot at a brick wall. Sorokin has been a fiend lately, allowing just 1.2 goals against and boasting an impressive .953 SV% in his last 5 home starts.
His numbers combined with an Islanders team that’s allowing just 25 shots against, and is 100% on the penalty kill makes the Islanders a very tough team to beat on home ice. As well as the Caps have been playing lately I think they’re run comes to an end here.
Sorokin has killed me in the past but when he’s as locked in as he’s been he’s arguably the best goalie in the league, a top 3 if nothing else. He’s playing like a man possessed and until that stops it’ll be hard to fade him on home ice.
