We have a doubleheader on opening night in the NHL. The Rangers and Lightning open things up, but it’s the late game that intrigues me.

The Golden Knights took a step back last year after being a Stanley Cup contender for four straight years. The Knights finished last season with a record of 42-31-8, missing the playoffs.

Due to cap issues, the Knights didn’t do much to improve this off-season. They lost Max Pacioretty, and their only addition worth noting were adding two over-the-hill former All-Stars, Shae Weber and Phil Kessel. To make matters worse, goalie, Robin Lehner, will miss the entire season due to a hip injury.

Conversely, the Kings made the playoffs last year for the first time since 2018 but didn’t go far, losing to the Oilers in the first round.

The Kings are on the rise and a real Pacific threat. While losing Dustin Brown to retirement was a determent to this young team, LA made a splash by trading for Kevin Fiala. Fiala will be nasty on the first line with Kopitar and Kempe.

Kevin Fiala to Score a Goal (+225)

Fans should also keep an eye on the third line, which features Gabriel Vilardi. The twenty-three-year-old should make some noise down on the third rotation. He scored five goals in twenty-five games last year, but he is poised for a breakout season.

The Golden Knights are opening the season with their second-string goalie, so bettors should look for the Kings to come out swinging on opening night..

LA Kings (-122)
