NFL WEEK 1 EARLY SLATE GPP STRATEGY

NFL WEEK 1 EARLY SLATE GPP STRATEGY

What’s up everyone!!! I am incredibly excited for the NFL to be BACK!!! RunPureSports is absolutely going to NUKE this NFL season. We started off with a BANG last night with Rubio and JSU getting massive shippers as well as OG Sub REDMEN splitting the main GPP for 100k!! Congrats to ALL the Winners from last nights game!!

This is a new article for me this year. Last season, I had A TON of success playing the EARLY ONLY slate in tournaments. There is little to no EARLY ONLY specific content in the DFS space as most focus on the Main Slate. We usually get like 7-8 games on the early slate vice 12-13 games on the main slate.

STACKS

  1. COMMANDERS – I absolutely LOVE Howell and the Commanders this week as the Josh Dobbs led Cardinals come to FED EX FIELD in the first regular season season with no Daniel Synder as owner in over 20 years. The Stadium is SOLD OUT and the atmosphere is going to be INSANE for the players. I am not seeing much ownership on Howell as of this writing as guys like Jackson, Burrow, Tlaw and Watson will all be higher. Howell is 4900 and allows A TON for your lineup to get as many studs as you can. Jahan Dotson (5000) and Dyami Brown (3000) are my favorite stack options with him and they literally wont be owned at all. Mclaurin (6400) is FINE, i just prefer spending down further. As far as a runback, I don’t think its truly necessary, BUT, James Conner would be my favorite option as I don’t trust Dobbs at all to get his WR’s the ball. Conner will be a true bell cow back and get a lot of check downs here.
  2. RAVENS – No surprise here at all as they are facing the Texans at home here. The Ravens got a new OC in Todd Monken this offseason, so maybe they will unleash Lamar’s arm more this season!! Lamar is almost double the price of Howell, and it could keep his % in check a bit, but I’m seeing conflicting ownership %’s on different sites. Mark Andrews is def the best stack option here, but likely the highest owned. I like saving a bit of money and going with either OBJ (5000) or Rashod Bateman (5300). I also LOVE Nico Collins this season as the Texans WR1. He is 4700 here and I love him as a run back. TE Dalton Schultz (4600) is my next favorite option here.
  3. JAGUARS – Trevor Lawrence (6500) is looking to build off his stellar 2022 where he passed for 4600 yards and had 30 TD’s and only 13 INT’s. He gets a MAJOR weapon upgrade this season with Calvin Ridley (6500) back after serving his suspension for Gambling. Christian Kirk (5600) is also very much in play here, but both WR’s will be popular on this slate. TE Evan Engram (4700) makes a ton of sense in tournaments here at much lower ownership. I also don’t hate playing Etienne with TLAW as he should catch some passes here. The runback here is a little muddy though. Anthony Richardson is definetly going to be taking some opportunities away from someone like Michael Pittman Jr. (6200). I think he is a bit over priced here. Deon Jackson should get the start with JT out until week 6. At 4100, he is def a viable run back. For the most part, I’m going to take a wait and see approach on the Indy WR and TE group.

RUNNING BACKS

  1. JOE MIXON – 6800 – 2 point road favorites against the Browns here. I think this game goes under the total which is the highest on the early slate at 47.5 as of this writing. I think both teams will look to establish their ground game. Mixon has little to no competition behind him and he should be a true workhorse RB. I do think he ends up being the highest owned RB though.
  2. ALEXANDER MATTISON – 6500 – A HUGE fan of his this season with Dalvin Cook in NY with the Jets now. He has zero competition and should be a 3 down back this season. As 5 point home favorites, I expect the Vikings to pound the rock to seal the W here. I think he is going to go under-owned.
  3. JAMAAL WILLIAMS – 5100 – Should get the majority of the carries with Kamara suspended until week 4. He was a touchdown MACHINE last season scoring 17!!!! I think he gets 1 or 2 on Sunday.

WIDE RECEIVERS

  1. JUSTIN JEFFERSON – 8800 – Finished 2022 with 1850 yards and 9 TD’s. He will have a similar year this season, but I expect more TD’s. He gets a tanking Bucs defense here in the DOME. GIDDY UP!
  2. JA’MARR CHASE – 8100 – Will be the highest owned WR on the early slate in a game with the highest total. I also like Higgins here as a lower owned option for the game. Chase missed 5 games last season and still had 1250 yards and 11 touchdowns. Love him here.
  3. CHRIS OLAVE – 6500 – This kid is a true STUD. And now this season, he gets the gunslinger Derek Carr as his QB. The matchup here is a bit concerning against a Mike Vrabel defense, but I still think he goes ham here.
  4. DEEBO SAMUEL – 5500 – Deebo is simply way too cheap here. He is priced under what he was EVERY WEEK last season. He is a unique weapon for Purdy and the 49ers. He is a true swiss army knife that gives defenses FITS.

TIGHT ENDS

  1. TJ HOCKENSON – 5900 – I typically like to spend down at TE, but with me liking Howell so much, I can flip my build and be much different than the field!! Hockenson is a STUD and should thrive in Minny with Captain Kirk who LOVES his TE.
  2. DAVID NJOKU – 4200 – Will def be one of the higher owned TE’s on the slate in the game with the highest total. I like him alot as a TE and think he smashes for 800+ yards this season.
  3. JUWAN JOHNSON – 3900 – He led the team in TD catches last season with 7. Derek Carr loved throwing to his TE in Vegas, and should be no different here!

DEFENSE

  1. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS – 2800 – This defense will be MASSIVELY OWNED on the early AND main slates this week. They are facing the Cardinals who are starting Josh Dobbs who they just signed 2 weeks ago. I also see that the Cardinals are going to have the next highest ownership, but I don’t like them at all here as I am expecting a ton of points for the Commanders.
  2. CAROLINA PANTHERS – 2600 – I love this pivot in GPPS. I am not sold on Desmond Ridder as being a component NFL quarterback at all. I also want to take the wait and see approach with Bijan Robinson, so I wont have any Falcons.
  3. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS – 3500 – Facing a Colts team without JT here. They are also facing rookie QB Phenom Anthony Richardson. He is going to be a good NFL QB i think, but there will def be growing pains. This Jags defense had 13 fumble recoveries and 14 INT’s last season.
