NBA Summer League Notes

Charlotte Hornets

Hopefully some of you got to catch the Hornets game yesterday if you didn’t. Bouknight and Kai Jones stood out the most not just in the stat sheet but the eye test as well.

Bouknight- Price creeped up a little bit but he was running the show absolutely no problem with getting to him here. He will be very high owned due to it being the first game and him have a game log

Kai Jones-  Can’t shoot worth a lick but it does not matter he’s extremely active and has a high motor which gives you a comfortable floor and safety net in your lineup. Will also be high owned like a Bouknight for reasons previously mentioned.

DJ Carton- as I anticipated he ran the offense when Bouknight wasn’t in the game. He only played 16 min but was very productive in that time. You could do a lot worse for 4k.

Liangelo Ball-  Actually looked good yesterday 5-8 from 3 , a couple steals. Only 16 min as well. He’s cheap, he’ll be high owned. I don’t blame you for going to him but I might fade and pray he only makes 2 threes this game.

Sacramento Kings

Another team we have already seen this year that has given a couple guys some big minutes. Leading the offense is Davion Mitchell, their top draft pick. Also got a couple of veteran forwards in Louis King and Emmanuel Terry that are active.

Davion Mitchell – Very high usage in the Cali classic averaged 30 min and 17 pts in 2 games making him a safer player than guys we’ve not seen their roles.

Louis King – Had the second highest usage in the Cali Classic, played 30+ min both games and exploded in one game for 19-6-2 with 2 steals. Too cheap.

Emmanuel Terry- Played 25+ min in both games and averaged 12pts 11Reb with some blocks and steals. Cheap and I think he’ll be lower owned cause he is a no name.

lol

Robert Woodard- Another dude who played 25+ min no stats jump off but he was active in every category and they accidentally have him listed as a SG when he’s a Center.

San Antonio Spurs

Not many flashy plays here but we know some rotation minutes so maybe a playon here. It is worth nothing tho that when Devin Vassell didn’t play one game or when he was off the floor this team looked pretty trash on offense much like the Lakers yesterday.

Devin Vassell-  Only played 2 of their 3 Salt lake classic games so unless starters are announced I’m fading. If he starts and we know that then he’s a top 5 play on the slate.

Daquan Jeffries-  Played good minutes all three games and didn’t have any explosive scoring games but he’s an NBA vet and he’s very safe at that salary with some pop in him too.

Joe Wieskamp-  Played 20+ min both games shot 8 times both games he’s been cold but he’s a dude who can get hit from outside.

Josh Primo –  Similar to wieskamp but played slightly more, another guard who can score the ball. Good Low owned GPP play.

Minnesota Timberwolves

A couple of solid second year players in Jaylen Nowell and Jaden Mcdandiels that made rotation for the team last year that should head the pack here (pun intended). It’s being reported that Mcdaniels is ready to shed his 3 and D label and show a very well rounded game this SL I expect heavy usage for him. There are also some new guys like Undrafted rookie McKinley Wright to round out some GPP lines.

Jaylen Nowell-  Played good minutes last year with injuries and had some pop games hopefully gets the keys to offense this SL to show Timberwolves what the have in the former Washington Husky.

Jaden Mcdaniels-  Started 27 Games last year for the TWolves and shot 36% from behind the Arc. He’s a guy who could have a huge ceiling if he actually gets usage which he should have the opportunity to in summer league as opposed to last season in the regular season. Him or Nowell will be my core.

McKinley Wright IV-  I loved this guy in college. He’s a triple double threat. I’m really hoping that if it’s not Jaylen Nowell with the ball in his hands then it’s this guy because he knows how to command an offense. I love him for GPPs and if he’s starting I’ll have probably too many shares than I’d like to admit for an undrafted rookie.

Orlando Magic

Similar to the Pistons yesterday there’s just too many mouths to feed and the salaries are too high. Cole Anthony , RJ Hampton , Jalen Suggs are all guys who thrive with the ball so I’m gonna wait and see. I also might just roll the dice on the cheapest one with the most to prove which is RJ Hampton.

Cole Anthony – Stud but may be too expensive for me

Jalen Suggs- Stud but may be too expensive for me.

RJ Hampton-  A lot of reports are saying he’s got the most to prove and I agree with them. He’s apparently grown an inch or two and has tried to play more off ball so if I’m taking a shot on one of these three it’s gonna be Hampton for the salary relief.

Ignas Brazdeikis–  Had playing time in the regular season last year and played decently . Also dominated a couple SL games last season.

Franz Wagnertop draft pick for them I’m sure he’ll get 20+ min but not sure the usage will be there. I’ll wait to see starters.

John Teske – apparently this is just the All-Michigan SL team 😂 I only like Teske if he starts.

Golden State Warriors

Another team we have got to watch already this year. Two stud rookies in Moody and Kuminga who balled out last week. Also one of my fav plays on the slate Gary Payton II.

JoeNathan Kuminga – Kuminga was extremely aggressive in the first game in SL and the stats show that. He’s extremely active and has a good floor. However at such a high price and no shooting ability I’m skeptical of the ceiling.

Moses Moody- I prefer Moody over Kuminga for two reasons . He’s cheaper and he can shoot. Moody had the same usage as Kuminga and comes in way cheaper.

Gary Payton II- Had the 3rd most shots which is surprising cause he’s a stat stuffer if we get 13 shot attempts from a sub 5k Payton it’s going to be a good day. Most likely will be in my core.

Los Angeles Clippers

Only 11 guys on their roster which I love and a couple of returning guys like Coffey, Scrubby scrub and Oturu that interest me.

Amir Coffey-  7k 😂😂😂 lock button. Make sure we get word he starts or is in uniform at least and then lock button.

Daniel Oturu –  The former gopher has some more to prove and only 6400 interest me at a  Center position I don’t love.

Jay Scrubb-  Picked up a start last year for Clippers 5800 is affordable for a guy who will shoot, hoping he comes in under owned.

Jason Preston-   If you haven’t heard about this kids story you’ve been living under a rock. He can stuff a stat sheet I’ll prolly have a couple shares cause I’m rooting for the kid.

Milwaukee Bucks

Team will be led by two guys on the 15 man roster(Jordan Nora, mamadi Diakite) for the defending champions. Also it’s a roster which lacks guards so picking the right guard here could pay dividends. WATCH FOR STARTING GUARDS FOR SNEAKY VALUE.

Jordan Nwora – This Offense will Start with Jordan Nwora who’s coming off a great Olympic showing. His offense is NBA level but reports are they wanna see him sharpen his defensive tools which is why he should get extended run this SL.

Mamadi Diakite – Nworas partner in crime will be Mamadi Diakite. For those of you who watched Kai Jones yesterday for the Hornets that is the type of play style you’ll see from Diakite. Tall, long athletic high motor that can lead to blocked shots, put backs and steals. Also worth mentioning his jumper is a little better than Kais. I really like Diakite floor here.

Sandro Mamukelashvila-  Reports out of practice that he might be in the running for most fun to watch in SL, also comparing his style to a poor man’s Nikola Jokic. Don’t know about that high praise but hearing that he’s performed well in camp is def enough to grab me some shares.

Jalen Crutcher/ Theo Pinson / Trice –  This roster lacks guard play so I imagine one of these guys will do very well for their cheap salaries . Crutcher is a shooter from Dayton who can get hot and also averaged 5 assists in college. Pinson is 25 year old who’s been around the league and will be the only guard on roster with experience. Trice is the only guard on the roster that can comfortably run an offense even if it’s not been at the NBA level yet.

Phoenix Suns

Didn’t have the chance to watch this game but as expected Jalen Smith played the most and balled out. The other Jaalen Smith had the second most minutes and came in cheap today. However not much else looked impressive at first glance.

Jalen Smith – Have absolutely no problem going right back to him here only a slight price increase and he performed well yesterday shooting really badly.

Ty-Shon Alexander – I was high on him yesterday thinking he’d be the alpha guard. He ended up not starting the game but still played 21 minutes. Shot really bad but he was a little streaky in college. I honestly like going right back to him. I believe in his talent and I’m hoping people fade. Strong GPP leverage.

Jaalen Smith- Jaalen with TWO As. Dude came out of nowhere, got the start and played the second most minutes on the team. He actually played decently and shot the ball 11 times. He’s cheap and we know his role so I like it.

Utah Jazz

In the Salt lake classic the Jazz had an A-team and a B-team. Luckily for us they put all their good players on the team that we will see tonight which makes rotations and usage a little easier to figure out. Strong interest in Trent Forrest, Udoka Azubuike, and Jarrell Brantley.

Trent Forrest-  Trent played like a man possessed in the Salt lake Classic heavy minutes had the most usage and looked fantastic. He’s way too cheap.

Udoka Azubuike- The 1-2 punch of him and Forrest was clicking on all cylinders. Double double machine absolutely a monster inside. I’d be very very shocked to see him get anything less than a double double.

Elijah Hughes – started all three games in the Salt lake classic playing 24 minutes , 12 minutes , 24 minutes. Had two games where he shot 9+ times. Absolutely no problem going to him at the Min price !

Jarell Brantley/ Juwan Morgan –  these two guys split the third most usage. Both are talented and potentially battling each other for a small spot in rotation. Give me Brantley for the savings however I don’t hate Morgan if you fall for him.

Macio Teague –  Besides Trent Forrest other guards on this roster are meh. Teague impressed me as we lead the team B-Team and now is on the roster with the big dogs. He’s only 4800 and if he starts I like the value.
