NBA Best Bets – 3/7/23

Golden State @ OKC

Steph Curry will play his second game since returning from injury. Most of the time, players have a slow start when coming back from missing so much time, but Curry came out strong against the Lakers on Sunday. Chef Curry scored 27 points in 32 minutes and fired 13 shots from deep. After that performance, today should be light work taking on the Thunder.

Oklahoma City has been terrible this season, but they just took back-to-back wins against the Jazz — outscoring Utah 259 – 222. So while they still aren’t a threat to beat the Warriors, it does prove they will be a tougher out as they are playing well.

While Golden State still does not have their starting five in play tonight, they should have no problem covering five points against the Thunder. Once Wiggins returns from personal leave, this team should heat up just in time for the playoffs, and pending any unforeseen circumstances, they will once again be a favorite to win the West.

Memphis @ Los Angeles

After defeating the Clippers on Sunday, the Grizzlies remain in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers. Memphis is still without Ja Morant; they are 4-6 in games he does not play.

While the indefinite suspension does not bode well for the Grizzlies, the injuries on the Lakers side help even the playing field. Los Angeles is missing LeBron James, D’Angelo, and Mo Bamba. So this game will be a battle between Anthony Davis and Jaren Jackson Jr. For that reason, the Lakers are just a (-1.5) favorite.

This is a challenging game to handicap; earlier in the season, it would have been easy to pull the trigger on Memphis. The Lakers have been playing well of late. However, they have lost three of their last five without LeBron. Ultimately there are too many distractions in the Grizzlies’ locker room, and with the Lakers quickly moving up in the West, they are highly motivated to improve their positioning.

Los Angeles (-120)

Another reason to bet Los Angeles is Anthony Davis’ play of late. Davis has averaged 34 points per game over his last four, and with James out, he will continue to be the go-to guy. Dillon Brooks loves causing a scene in Crypto.com Arena, but he nor Jackson Jr. will have any answers for Davis.
