MLB Best Bets – Tigers & Mariners

Mariners @ Twins

On Monday, the Mariners head to Target Field to open up a series with the Twins. These two teams split a four-game set in Seattle last week in a series that saw forty runs. Bettors can expect more high scoring action today.

Facing off again today is Luis Castillo and Kenta Maeda. While both starters did well in their last meeting, the game still saw nine runs as both bullpens faltered. Looking at the trends of both these pitchers and these teams, there is no reason to think we won’t see another over today.

Over 8 Runs (-105)

Maeda pitched six and a third against Seattle and allowed just two runs on three runs. He enters play with a 5.10 ERA, but one bad outing against the Yankees has skewed that stat so heavily. So considering the kind of work he is capable of and knowing what Castillo will do, bettors should take the under in the first five.

First Five: Under 4 (-110)

Based on what we saw last week, it’s tough making a prediction, but it’s never wise to bet against Castillo when he’s on the bump. He should be able to turn over a lead, even his bullpen won’t be able to blow.

Giants @ Tigers

The Giants have suffered five consecutive losses, with their most recent defeat being a sweep at the hands of the lowly Nationals. Their offense struggled during their time in Washington, and they will try to regain their form swiftly as they head to Detroit for a quick game. Due to a rainout contest on April 16, they face off in a matinee game.

Ross Stripling will take the mound for San Francisco; he has displayed a fair level of consistency this year. Throughout nine starts, Stripling has conceded at least two runs in eight of them. The Giants have utilized Stripling as a starter and in relief, but he has shown slightly better performance when starting.

Tarik Skubal underwent flexor tendon surgery last August, impacting the start of his 2023 season. Before the setback, he enjoyed the best season of his career, boasting a commendable 3.52 ERA and an above-average strikeout rate.

He finally returned to the mound on July 4, delivering a brilliant performance. The Tigers are carefully managing his workload, imposing a pitch limit to ease him back into the game. Nevertheless, in his first outing, Skubal recorded six strikeouts and kept the opponents hitless during his four innings of work. He followed up with another impressive scoreless outing in his second start.

Despite his struggles in his more recent start, bettors should expect the best out of Skubal today. Things won’t be any brighter for the Giants.
