Braves @ Reds

AJ Smith-Shawver’s Wednesday start was rained out, so he’ll receive the call today. We’ve only seen two starts out of him, but he has looked stellar. Today, he has a tall order, taking on a Cincinnati ball club that has won eleven games in a row. However, if there’s a team that can put an end to that, it’s the Braves.

AJ Smith-Shawver Over 4.5 Ks (-120)

Smith-Shawver will be going up against Luke Weaver, who has a 6.47 ERA over 11 starts. We should see a slugfest today, both teams have been winning games by running up the score, and while I could see things going either way for Smith-Shawver, Atlanta will undoubtedly get theirs against Weaver. It’s just a question of will it be enough.

FD: Atlanta: Over 6 Runs (-111)
Luke Weaver: Over 3.5 Runs Allowed (-127)

Yankees @ Rangers

The Bronx Bombers are in Arlington to take on the second-best team in the American League. The Rangers are 5-5 over their last ten despite averaging over five runs a game. However, kicking off this series with the Yankees, they’re hoping to increase their lead in the West.

Texas has yet to announce their starter for this one, but we know they’ll face Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt’s name doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the big names in the Yankees’ rotation, but he’s certainly holding his own. He’s allowed three runs or less in 11 of his 15 starts.

Schmidt’s strikeout totals have been all over the place, ranging from 1 K in six innings against the White Sox to 8 over 5 innings against the Rangers in May. Given that the Texas bats are in a bit of a slump — having over 30 Ks over their last three games — bettors should look for another solid outing from Schmidt.

FD: Clarke Schmidt Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+114)

It’s tough to handicap the result of this one as the Rangers bats have been all or nothing, but given the odds, going up against a weak Yankees lineup, it’s hard to pass on that moneyline.

Texas Moneyline (-110)
