MLB Best Bets – 6/15/23

Pirates @ Cubs

Chicago is looking to finish this sweep of Pittsburgh as Marcus Stroman makes the start against Johan Oviedo.

Both pitchers have been lit up a couple times this season,  but they have been solid overall. Oviedo is allowing an average of 2.5 runs per start, and Stroman, just 1.6. Only the Twins and Dodgers have managed more than two runs off of Stroman.

Marcus Stroman Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+120)

The Cubs seem to be set up well with Stroman on the mound, but Oviedo has strong history against the Chicago. So while thirty total runs were scored in the first two games of this series, today’s matchup should look a little bit different.

First Five Innings: Under 3.5 (-123)

White Sox @ Dodgers

One man who’s desperately trying to find his groove this season is Dylan Cease. After finishing second in the 2022 Cy Young voting, he has been all over the place this year. Cease opened the season with four tremendous starts that made it look like he was picking up right where he left off, but after back-to-back starts against the Rays, the wheels came off, and he’s been trying to put it back together since.

Cease allowed only one run in each of his last two starts, however those games were against the Tigers and Marlins. So while he hopes it’s the start of a streak, taking on the Dodgers today is a much tougher challenge.

Dylan Cease: Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+110)

Starting for the Dodgers is Michael Grove. This season Grove has bounced between the rotation, bullpen, and Oklahoma. Nothing about his work has been impressive, so the White Sox should have just as much fun with his, as LA should with Cease.

Michael Grove: Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+105)
Michael Grove: Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-111)

Over 9 Runs (+100)
