Oh how the tables have turned in the Jeff Capel tenure. First he’s left with a program in shambles under Kevin Stallings, and proceeds to go winless in the ACC then turns it all around with what appeared to be a tournament team in 2021 or so we thought Pittsburgh clearly hasn’t learned how to win yet. Pitt was primed to be in this years big dance that is until their best player and future NBA’er Justin Champaigne came back from injury. This was thought to be the piece that would put them over the hump, not so fast my friend. Since the return of Champaigne Pitt has lost 3 in a row and have done it in terrible fashion. With Champaigne back their offense has improved dramatically but they’ve clearly decided that defense isn’t nearly as important.
On to the Hokies. Kem Pom has Virginia Tech as the 29th best team in the country. This team trouts out an extremely deep team lead by Aluma, and Alleyne. Pittsburgh has been struggling to score the ball over the last 3 games which doesn’t bode well against this stingy Hokie defense who is only giving up 63 points per game. Techs last 2 opponents have both only put up 51 points against this Hokie defense. I see more of the same tonight. Hokies have won 5 of 6 and the Panthers have lost 3 in a row. I take the hotter team with the better offense, better defense, and better coach.
I think this is a grindem out type game where pitt only gets into the high 50’s and Virginia gets the cover.
