MATCHUP SUMMARY
The Detroit Lions (0-3) are coming off a deflating last-second 19-17 loss to Baltimore last week. Jared Goff engineered a drive for a go-ahead field goal with just over a minute left. Lamar Jackson would convert on a 4th and 19 on the ensuing drive that would eventually lead to the game-winning and NFL record 66-yard field goal by Justin Tucker. Goff has been pretty good statistically through the first three weeks completing nearly 70% of his passes with 5 touchdowns. After a solid first two weeks of the season tight end T.J. Hockenson was held to just two catches for 10 yards. I look for him to bounce back here with a solid game.
The Justin Fields era did not get off to a good start last week in Cleveland as the Bears lost 26-6 to the Browns. The rookie out of Ohio State completed just 6 of 20 passes and was sacked 9 times in his first NFL start. The offense managed just 47 yards of total offense on the day. The Bears will need to figure out a better way of utilizing Fields this week at home against a Lions teams who they should beat. David Montgomery is a guy that could have a big game here against a Lions rush defense that has struggled at times stopping the run. If they can establish the run in this game it may open up more opportunities for Fields to succeed.
THE DFS GEMS
David Montgomery, CHI – $5,800 on DraftKings. After a tough couple weeks, Montgomery gets back on track this week in a favorable matchup here at home against the Lions.
T.J. Hockenson, DET – $5,800 on DraftKings. Hockenson caught 16 passes (on 20 targets) for 163 yards and two touchdowns after 2 games but was held to just 2 catches last week. I think Goff sends more targets his way this week and it leads to a solid game.
