MATCHUP SUMMARY
Urban Meyer hopes to bring the great success he had in the College game into the NFL as he begins the next chapter in his coaching career with the Jaguars. Jacksonville is in the midst of a rebuild here with #1 overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence will see his best matchup this week vs this terrible Texans defense that ranked 31st in QB rating and 32nd in completion percentage allowed last year. Laviska Shenault is poised for a 2nd year break-out season after catching 58 passes for 600 yards and 5 touchdowns last season. Jaguars acquired Marvin Jones this offseason who looked to have a good rapport with Lawrence in the preseason. Travis Etienne was lost for the season due to injury, boosting James Robinson into a feature role. Robinson is coming off 1,070 rush yards and 7 touchdowns last season.
There isn’t much good to say about this Texans team that looks to be tanking with how they are treating the Watson scenario. Tyrod Taylor takes over as starting QB with a record of 24-21-1. He has a career QB rating of 89.5 and has thrown 54 TDs to 20 INTs. Brandin Cooks will be his main target this season as he comes off an 81 catch season recording 1,150 receiving yards, and 6 TDs. Both Mark Ingram and Phillip Lindsey are listed as RB1s on the team depth chart. Phillip Lindsey has seen success playing for a poor team as he had 2 1,000-yard seasons for the Denver Broncos in which he started 15 games or more. Lindsey also has solid hands out of the backfield catching 35 passes both of those years.
I will be looking to target this Jaguars passing attack here as Lawrence looked a lot more comfortable and poised in his final preseason game. This is the perfect opportunity for Urban Meyer and this Jags team to get off to a fast start.
THE DFS GEMS
Trevor Lawrence, JAX – $6,200 on DraftKings. I think this game gets overlooked with the low game total, but the Jaguars implied team total is near the middle of the pack. I think we could see some fireworks here vs this poor defense.
Marvin Jones, JAX – $3,600 on DraftKings. This is a great price on a guy that showed solid rapport with Lawrence in the preseason. Jones caught 7 of 9 targets for 93 yards in his 2 preseason games.
Laviska Shenault, JAX – $5,000 on DraftKings. I like being able to get a double stack for only 14,800 here. Shenault caught 10 of 13 targets this preseason for 83 yards and a touchdown.
