College Basketball Best Bets – 12/7/22

I am still trying to break out of this .500 slump. We should have had a perfect night last night, but Memphis couldn’t take care of Little Rock. They had so many opportunities to close out and cover, but they kept letting them creep back in, so the over hit and Little Rock covered.

It’s a less entertaining slate of games today, so unranked Michigan State playing unranked Penn State is one of the best offerings today.

Tom Izzo’s Spartans have looked terrible, and only Minnesota separates them from the bottom of the Big Ten. Michigan State has dropped its last two, suffering devastating losses to Notre Dame and Northwestern.

Penn State has been skating through this season, and they hold a respectable record of 6-2. Their losses came in overtime against Clemson last time out, and they lost to Virginia Tech earlier in the year.

These two teams have alternated winning at the spread over their last ten games. It’s Michigan’s turn to win, and they need this dub desperately.

A slow start to the season isn’t unusual for the Spartans, but they need to start rolling soon.

Manhattan Jaspers @ Providence Friars

While this is a game most would scroll right past, it offers the best edge on the slate.

Providence is one of those teams that usually slides into the tournament, and ends up making some noise, much like a Butler or Wichita State. However, unless you live in Rhode Island, Providence is a team you ignore until March.

The Friars had some big wins to open the season, but since losing back-to-back games to Miami and St. Louis, their games have been much closer.

The Jaspers play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and while Providence is a far better team than they usually face, all of Manhattan’s games have been close — they’re 5-1 ATS. So while a loss is inevitable, they should have no problem covering this massive spread.

Manhattan +19.5 (-110) & Over 134.5 (-110)
