South Carolina Upstate @ Duke
The South Carolina Upstate Spartans head to Durham for the first time in school history to take on the Blue Devils.
This is both teams’ second game of the season, and they enter play with one win.
In their first game, the Spartans ran over the Brevard College Tornados 90-42. While you probably have never heard of South Carolina Upstate, you definitely never heard of Brevard. It’s a tiny college in western North Carolina where the only thing lower than their acceptance rate is their graduation rate.
Duke won their first game by 27, making light work of the Jacksonville Dolphins. Jon Scheyer must make the most of these games, as his first real test as Duke’s head coach comes on Tuesday when the Blue Devils take on the Jayhawks.
Duke should cover the massive spread, as Scheyer needs to ensure his team is ready for Kansas.
Duke -27.5 (-110)
Michigan State V. Gonzaga (Carrier Classic)
The unranked Michigan State Spartans are set to take on the second-best team in the nation on the USS Abraham Lincoln. This is not the first time Michigan State has played on an aircraft carrier. In 2011, Michigan State lost to UNC in the first-ever Carrier Classic.
It’s another year of Gonzaga being a top-ranked school, and they’ll try to have better success. Gonzaga has achieved a number-one ranking in the previous four years, but they have just one Final Four appearance. Worse than that, Gonzaga has made the NCAA tournament every year since 1999, and they have exactly zero National Titles.
Michigan State is a scrappy school. No matter how they enter the season, they cause problems in the league and are always liable to make a run at the tournament.
This is only the third time these schools have played each other, and the Spartans won both meetings. This time around, Gonzaga has a far better team, but 11.5 points is too many. It will be a tight game, and while Gonzaga will come out on top, it’ll be by less than twelve.
Shooting on an aircraft carrier is more challenging than one might think; the total is always low on these ships, so take the under.
Michigan State +11.5 (-110) & Under 147 Points (-110)
