MATCHUP SUMMARY

Justin Herbert looks to improve on his incredible rookie season where he threw for 4,336 yards, 31 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. Herbert should continue to build rapport with the likes of Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, and deep threat target Mike Williams. On the surface, LAC lacks depth at the tight end position and will rely on the veteran Jared Cook. Herbert and the Chargers face a brutal test in week one against one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL. These are the spots I typically avoid or reduce exposure too; However, from a pure volume perspective, you can make a case for Austin Ekeler or Keenan Allen on DraftKings specifically.

Washington brings in a pass-happy veteran in Ryan Fitzpatrick to lead their 2021 offensive campaign. Things are looking up for the Football team as Fitzpatrick will have two elite weapons to target in Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel. These two Buckeye wideouts have all the speed and big play-making ability and a quarterback who will not hesitate to throw the ball often and deep. Washington brings back their dynamic duo in the backfield in Antonio Gibson and JD McKissic. Gibson proved to be highly effective on the ground and I’m expecting a heavy workload from him this season.

In sum, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a big boost to the daily fantasy viability of this Washington offense. However, I expect Washington to continue to lean on their elite defense this season.

THE DFS GEMS

Austin Ekeler, LAC – $7,000 on DraftKings. Ekeler is a DraftKing specific play this week. His projected volume catching balls out of the backfield give him a strong floor.

Antonio Gibson, WAS – $5,900 on DraftKings. I expect this to be a lower scoring game where Washington leans on their defense. Gibson should see plenty of volume here and if he finds the endzone, he will pay off his price tag.

Washington Defense – $3,200 on DraftKings. The Chargers will struggle on the ground here which will force Herbert to throw downfield. More throws equals more opportunities for interceptions
