MATCHUP SUMMARY

Justin Herbert and the Chargers look to bounce back in a friendly matchup against the Texans in Houston. Austin Ekeler was placed on the COVID-19IR earlier this week and said on Thursday that “it doesn’t look good” when asked about his chances of being cleared for this game. Assuming he sits, Herbert becomes one of the best Quarterback plays on the board. While Justin Jackson is surely in play as the lead back, I expect the Chargers to deploy a pass-heavy attack without Ekeler. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams could potentially see double-digit targets each, while Josh Palmer may benefit from the absence of Jalen Guyton who was also placed on the COVID-19 IR. Even with Donald Parham, Jr. likely missing this one I have minimal interest in the Chargers’ Tight Ends.
Davis Mills has been playing well but the loss of Wide Receiver Brandin Cooks is a big blow to his outlook for this game. Yes, the Chargers have been soft defensively and will now be without Joey Bosa, but the lack of weapons without Cooks constitutes a real deficit. While the Chargers are bottom of the league against opposing Running Backs the Texans possess perhaps the least capable rushing attack in the league. Rex Burkhead is a risky bet for upside but may see additional receiving targets with Cooks out. Nico Collins is a decent punt given the matchup and situation.
THE DFS GEMS
JUSTIN HERBERT, LAC – $7200 on DraftKings. Fantastic spot for Herbert without Ekeler against this soft defense?
KEENAN ALLEN, LAC – $7700 on DraftKings. I expect high double-digit targets for Allen.
MIKE WILLIAMS, LAC – $6100 on DraftKings. Yes, he’s disappointed since flourishing early in the season but this is a fantastic opportunity for Big Mike to get right.
NICO COLLINS, HOU – $3400 on DraftKings. Value punt who should see increased targets with Brandin Cooks out.
