MATCHUP SUMMARY
Detroit is hanging on with a thread for a playoff spot after last week’s disappointing loss to Carolina. The Bears are out of the playoff hunt playing for pride. Jamaal Williams and Chase Claypool are on the injury report so keep up on those two. This game will command plenty of attention. These two teams faced off a few weeks back and put up 61 points. The total is the highest for the week and 4 points higher than the closest game.
It’s apparent that Justin Fields is playing with an injured non throwing shoulder. Will these keep him more in the pocket or will he use his legs to try and break the record for yards rushing by a quarterback. I am sure Fields will be one of the highest owned at his position after putting up 40+ against the Bears earlier. David Montgomery now appears to be getting the lion share of usage in the backfield. He has gone double digit fantasy points in five in a row with 20+ in two. As for Field’s wideout options I won’t chase them. He will spread it around capping upside from all his options which are plenty of Claypool plays.
The Lions return home after two road games in which Jared Goff played much better than his past on the road. Goff has done his damage at home and remains a cheap play for his upside. He might be more popular than Fields due to that price tag. If Williams is out then D’Andre Swift becomes a elite play getting all the usage. Swift played many downs last week but didn’t get the usage he desired due to the game flow. Amon St Brown has cooled off from his prior monster games while his price tag is still high. Since the Lions became healthy at wideout he has lost production. Shane Zylstra had a great week and I won’t chase his numbers. Throw in DJ Chark, Josh Reynolds, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond and it becomes difficult who to target without stacking this team in many different ways. When healthy the Lions are full of potential heavy hitters who all have shown they can have big games.
THE DFS GEMS
Jared Goff, Lions-$5600 Goff impressed me on the road stats wise. He should be in a great spot to put up big numbers against a weak Bears defense.
Amon St Brown, Lions-7,800 Really like Amon if Williams is out. Should put Goff in more throwing downs while opening up red zone targets that Williams tends to eat up.
David Montgomery, Bears-$6,900 People will box score look his first game against Detroit and ignore. Add on his price and he could go moderately owned at best. Detroit was horrible against the run last week and Montgomery has a great opportunity here.
